Court flogs applicant for attempting suicide at Dawaki

An Abuja Grade 1 Area Court has ordered that one 26-year-old applicant be given 10 strokes of the cane for attempting to take his own life at Dawaki in Bwari Area Council of the FCT.
Sunday David was convicted for attempting to commit the offence of suicide contrary Section 95 of the Penal Code.
The Police Prosecutor, Azik Kaura, told the court that one Oteri Zealous of Dawaki, on December 8, brought the accused, of same address, from where he was seen taking 10 sachet of Dizapun and Tramol with intention to kill himself over life's numerous challenges.
When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded guilty and Judge Mohammed Marafa ordered him to be given 10 strokes of the cane.

Security guard flogged for stealing generator

A 35-year-old security guard was given 15 strokes of the cane by an Abuja Grade 1 Area Court for stealing a generator at Kubwa, Bwari Area Council of the FCT.
David Danjuma was convicted for criminal trespass and theft, offences contrary to Sections 348 and 288 of the Penal Code.
The police prosecutor, Lukas Ephraim, told the court that one Kabo Ezra Sunday of Kubwa, on December 8, reported at Kubwa Police Station, of how the accused, on same date, entered into his compound and stole his 8100 KVA generator valued at N70,000.
He said he took the item away in an attempt to deprive the complainant of ownership, but was arrested while attempting to sell it.
When the charges were read to the accused, he pleaded guilty and the Judge Mohammed Marafa ordered that he should be given 15 strokes of the cane.
