RAUB: A 42-year-old unemployed man will spend the rest of his life behind bars as he was sentenced to a total of 115 years' jail for four counts of rape and one of committing unnatural sex on four victims, aged 9 to 17.Rabidin Satir of Tambunan, Sabah, was also ordered to be given 50 strokes of the rotan after he pleaded guilty to all the charges at the Sessions Court here yesterday. Rabidin was nicknamed "Rambo Bentong" as he used a Rambo knife to threaten his victims and attacked policemen. Judge Murtazadi Amran sentenced him to 25 years' jail and 10 strokes of the rotan on each rape charge and 15 years' jail and 10 strokes for committing unnatural sex. Rabidin pleaded guilty to: RAPING a 17-year-old girl in a house in Jalan Kuala Lumpur-Bentong between 1am and 3am on June 21, 2010; RAPING an 8-year-old girl at a riverside behind a house in Ketari, Bentong, between 12.30am and 1.30am on April 29, 2011; RAPING and sodomising a 16-year-old girl in a house in Ketari between 1am and 2.30am on Oct 12, 2011; and RAPING a 9-year-old girl in Taman Sri Marong, Bentong, between 2am and 3am on July 9, 2009.
Murtazadi said Rabidin had committed inhumane acts and should apologise to the young victims and their family members. "I hope you are remorseful and seek forgiveness from God," said Murtazadi who ordered the jail term to run consecutively from the date of arrest on Nov 14 last year. In mitigation, Rabidin, who was unrepresented, claimed he was in a state of hallucination and was drunk when he committed the offences. Deputy public prosecutor Atiqah Liyana Shahrir pressed for a heavy deterrent as Rabidin's heinous acts had put society in fear as the offences involved children. Sessions Court judge Egusra Ali meted out the sentence on the accused (Juldan Saidi) who pleaded guilty to two counts of charge under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code which provides imprisonment of not less than eight years' and not more than thirty years' and not less than ten strokes of the cane. Egusra sentenced the accused who works as a construction worker to ten years' jail and ten strokes of the cane after the accused pleaded guilty to the first charge for raping the victim on Nov 20 last year at about 7.30am inside a room of a worker's quarters at a school building site at Mile 8, Apas Road. For the second count, the accused was sentenced to twenty years' jail and ten strokes' of the cane for raping the victim on the same day and place at about 5pm.
Egusra ordered the sentence to run concurrently from the date of arrest. Prosecuting officer Inspector Joan Lee told the court that the victim's grandmother lodged a police report on Dec 7 after the victim could not stand it anymore and told her grandmother that she had been raped by her stepfather. On the same day at about 5.10pm the accused was detained by police at the construction site. Joan during submission asked the court to hand down a deterrent sentence as the victim experienced trauma and her future is bleak and she is also scared to go out in public as she felt ashamed and insulted, while the accused asked for a lenient sentence and the sentence to run concurrently. SANDAKAN: The Sessions Court here sentenced a foreigner to 19 years' jail and 12 strokes of cane after he pleaded guilty to three counts of robbery and a count of illegal entry. Rakie Kuna, 34, pleaded guilty before judge Ummu Kalthom Abdul Samad to all the offences. For the first offence, Rakie was jailed for six years and ordered to be whipped three times for robbing a wallet of a 48-year-man which contained RM1,500 cash at knife point. He committed the offence with an accomplice at 2.30am on November 22, last year at Bandar Indah. For the second count, Rakie was sentenced to five years' jail and a stroke for robbing a woman's handbag containing valuables and RM2,060 at 2.30pm on Jan 24 this year in front of a shopping complex here. The accused was sentenced to six years' jail and four strokes for robbing a woman's handbag containing RM2,500 cash with an accomplice at 7.40pm on Jan 26 this year at Kampung Sim-Sim. For the three counts, Rakie was charged under Section 375/397 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term up to seven years, fine and cane upon conviction. Rakie also received another two years' jail and four strokes for illegally staying in the state.
