Prison, cane for cycle thefts

press cutting CHINGOLA, Tuesday. -- An unemployed signwriter, 19-year-old C.J. Van der Berg, was sentenced to four months' imprisonment here today for stealing a bicycle.

A 16-year-old European boy was ordered to receive nine strokes of the cane for a similar offence.

press cutting A 17-year-old Bulawayo boy appeared at Lusaka Magistrates Court yesterday and was sentenced to 10 strokes of the cane after pleading guilty to one count of theft, three counts of forgery and two counts of uttering. The sum involved was £30 10s. 6d.
