The Monitor, Kampala, 1 April 1996Drunken man undressesBy Richard K. Opio In Kwania - Apac Residents of Aboko, Aduku sub-county in Kwania county, Apac district were, March 13, stunned when a prominent man in the area undressed in public in broad daylight after drinking too much lira-lira (potent gin) and smoking opium. According to the LC 2 Chairman one Odyek, the man, Adyek, after undressing ran into his house and picked his children aged 5 and 2 and threw them into a pit-latrine. By then, his wife had gone to fetch water from a well. On coming back from the well, and seeing her husband dancing naked in the compound and chanting slogans, the woman made an alarm which attracted neighbours. One resident Robert Atek told The Monitor that on seeing the crowd of villagers, Odyek ran into the bush but was arrested by LCs. The crowd then set out to remove the two kids from the latrine. They were found covered with faeces and maggots but they were immediately washed and they recovered. Odyek was then summoned before an LC court where he pleaded that he lost his senses after smoking some kind of cigarettes given to him by a friend. He was then fined one goat, Shs 50,000 and given some strokes of the cane. |
