But he did this just so he could press the stickers onto the girls' breasts.
Then he would just walk away.
In this manner, newspaper vendor Elankovan Velayutham, 35, molested seven girls, a district court was told on Tuesday. He did this on June 27 to two girls, in front of Planet Hollywood at Liat Towers, and to other girls at the Lucky Plaza and Paragon shopping centres.
But on July 25, when he tried the same manoeuvre on a 16-year-old student near Centrepoint, she and her friend went after him.
A passer-by detained Elankovan and called the police.
Now jobless, he has been convicted of theft and molest before.
He pleaded guilty to five counts of molest and was sentenced to nine months' jail and three strokes of the cane on each charge.
Three of the sentences are consecutive. So he will be jailed for 27 months and will be caned 15 strokes in all. He was also found guilty on other charges.
He was fined a total of $1,400 for having seven uncensored tapes, and $1,000 for having 13 banned magazines, including Playboy, Penthouse and Hustler at his flat in Toa Payoh on July 30. He also received concurrent sentences of three months each for having 78 obscene video tapes and 55 other obscene films.
Four other charges, including two counts of molest, were considered in sentencing.
A 36-YEAR-OLD man was jailed for 14 years and given the maximum 24 strokes of the cane for raping a 76-year-old woman and breaking into her flat.
Jasman Salim, a father of three children, molested the woman twice last year. He raped her in May this year.
The mechanic was sentenced by the High Court on Friday after he pleaded guilty at a hearing which was conducted in private.
Relatives took the elderly woman, a widow, to court in a wheelchair. But she did not attend the hearing.
The location of her Housing Board flat, where she was raped, was withheld to protect her identity.
In passing sentence, Judicial Commissioner Choo Han Teck noted that the accused had pleaded guilty to three charges of sexual crimes.
Raping the woman during the break-in at about 4 am on May 1.

The second sentence is concurrent, so his total sentence is 14 years and 24 strokes of the cane.

Another molest charge for rubbing against her thigh and breast last year and a housebreaking charge were considered in sentencing.
The woman lives with a relative, but the relative was not home the night of the rape.
Jasman entered her flat in the early hours of May 1; he slipped his hand through a window in the corridor to unlock the front door.
He covered her face with a blanket before he stripped and raped her.
In his mitigation plea, he claimed he was drunk as he had consumed some liquor.
He begged for leniency, saying his wife suffered from high blood pressure and that she would have difficulty supporting their family.
He could have been jailed for life for having unnatural sex and jailed for up to 20 years for the rape.

Molester gets jail and caning
The 79-year-old victim was saved by a passer-by after being attacked when she was alone at a void deck

HER flat was too warm and she could not sleep, so the 79-year-old woman, an Ang Mo Kio resident, decided to go down to the void deck for some fresh air.
She often did that, her neighbours said, as the void deck was windy and she would sometimes fall asleep there.
As she sat there alone, enjoying the cool breeze at about 3 am on Aug 9 this year, a stranger attacked her and molested her, a district court heard yesterday. The woman cannot be named, to protect her privacy. Her assailant was Siah Oon Yeong, a 36-year-old odd-job labourer. He was sentenced to 15 months' jail and ordered to be caned six strokes.
Siah pushed the old woman to the ground and touched her body. Then he unzipped his trousers and molested her.
She tried to push him away but she was pinned down by his weight.
Fortunately, a passer-by intervened.
Mr Iskandar Abdul Rahim, 23, a project manager with an interior design company, said he had just taken a friend home.
He said: "I was walking to a 7-Eleven outlet to buy a drink because it was a warm night.
"When I walked past the block, I heard someone panting, as though she couldn't breathe."
He saw what was happening just about 5 m away and shouted. Siah ignored him, he said.
Mr Iskandar said: "I shouted 'Police!' and then he got up and ran away."
He chased the man and managed to get his cellular phone out while he was running, and called the police.
They had gone about 100 m before Siah tired and stopped. The police arrived and arrested him.
The victim was not hurt, said Mr Iskandar. "She was quite angry, in fact," he added.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Winston Chew told the court yesterday that Siah was found to be drunk. He was admitted to Woodbridge Hospital but was not found to be mentally unstable.

Girl raped again 5 months after rape by grandad

A 12-YEAR-OLD girl was raped six times by a man she knew, barely five months after she was last raped by her own grandfather, the High Court heard yesterday. The rapist is 27-year-old Sulaiman Hamin, who sells religious calendars and who had employed her to help him.
Psychiatrists found the girl to be "gullible and easily influenced by others" because of her low IQ of 60.
Between 1996 and March last year, she was raped and molested by her 64-year-old grandfather when she stayed overnight at his flat or at her own home when her parents were not in.
The grandfather admitted raping her and was jailed in July this year for 12 years.
In yesterday's case, the accused raped the girl six times soon after he asked her to work for him in August last year. Judicial Commissioner Tay Yong Kwang sentenced Sulaiman to a total of 16 years in jail and the maximum 24 strokes of the cane after he pleaded guilty to four counts of rape.
The other two rape charges were considered in sentencing.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Toh Yung Cheong said Sulaiman met the girl at a shop, befriended her and asked her to help him sell the calendars. She went home and got her father's permission and then agreed to work for him.
Two days after she started work, Sulaiman raped her. That morning, she had gone to his flat before they went around to sell the calendars.
Sulaiman then forced her to have sex with him. He ignored her protests and proceeded to strip and rape her.
The DPP said the girl did not run away or resist Sulaiman because she was afraid of him.
That night, he again forced her to have sex with him on a stone bench at a resting area in a Housing Board estate.
He raped her four more times before her father made her stop working because she had been coming home late.
Then, last November, her parents took her to hospital when she said she had stomach pains. She was found to be 11 weeks pregnant.
The pregnancy was terminated but DNA tests on the foetus later confirmed that the father was Sulaiman.
Yesterday, defence lawyer K. Sivaratnam said in mitigation that Sulaiman did not know the girl was mildly retarded. Sulaiman could have been jailed up to 20 years on each rape charge.
