NZ soldiers fail in appeal for clemency
PRESIDENT Devan Nair has rejected the appeals for clemency from three New Zealand soldiers, sentenced to three years' jail and three strokes of the rotan for selling cannabis in their camp here.
Letters rejecting their appeals were sent to their lawyers a week
ago, it was learnt last night.
The three, Selwyn Hirini Kahukura, 26, Hugh Gordon Clark, 22, and Tony Alfred Gordon, 22, have been in Changi Prison since November last year.
The three soldiers, who committed the offences at Dieppe Barracks in Sembawang, pleaded guilty in a civilian court after their attempts to be tried by a military court failed.
