Schoolboy Thief.
Second Whipping At The Age Of 15.
Convicted of theft of a bicycle from the Y.M.C.A. a 15-year-old Cantonese schoolboy, Leong Kam Seng, was ordered ten strokes of the rotan by the Criminal District Judge, Mr. H.A. Forrer, yesterday. This was the youth's second conviction.
Replying to Mr. Forrer, the boy said that his first conviction was for the theft of some school books. "I should have received eight strokes of the rotan on that occasion," he told the judge, "but I only got five: It was very painful."
His Honour: Yes, that's what it is supposed to be.Accused then went on to say that he had been asked to leave his former school, the Pearl's Hill Institution, and that he then joined the Le Mercier's School.
