No caning for schoolgirls
THE CANE has been banned from girls' schools in the Federation [of Malaya, not incl. Singapore itself -- C.F.]. From yesterday, corporal punishment of the Federation's 180,000 girl pupils is prohibited.
New regulations published in the Government Gazette state, however, that boys can be caned with a light cane "on the palm of the hand or on the buttocks over the clothes."
