Corpun file 1245 at www.corpun.com The Star, Kuala Lumpur, 24 July 1997Whipping and jail for three robbersBy Charanjeet Kaur PETALING JAYA: An Indonesian construction worker was jailed a total of 300 months and ordered to be given 20 strokes of the rotan for five charges of armed robbery by the magistrate's court here yesterday. However, Weat Tajuddin, 19, will only be in jail for 60 months as his sentences are to run concurrently. He admitted committing the offences on Oct 16, 1995, and Nov 6, 1995, at two different houses in Bandar Sri Damansara, Sungai Buloh. Wean was armed with a knife when he robbed a 19-year-old boy and a 37-year-old housewife of their cash amounting to RM15,000, jewellery worth RM7,000 and other personal belongings. He also admitted to three other similar charges together with two other Indonesian construction workers. Kharuddin Ahmad, 25, Rian Hasbullah, 20, and Weat admitted committing the offences at several houses in Damansara between November 1995 to February 1996 at the early hours of the morning. Kharuddin and Rian were each jailed 60 months and given 12 strokes of the rotan for the three charges. The three were charged for being armed with knives and screwdrivers when they robbed three house owners of their cash totalling RM1,380, jewellery, watches worth RM5,000 and other personal belongings. Magistrate Rafidah Omar set the sentence to run concurrently from their date of arrest from Feb 29, 1995. The facts of the cases stated that the three wore only their underwear or shorts during the robberies. |
