The rod is the deterrent

A teenager who was found travelling without a ticket in a train is to be caned, on the orders of the Anuradhapura Magistrate.

He will be given five strokes of the cane.

The teenager from Wattala earlier pleaded guilty of travelling from Colombo to Anuradhapura without a ticket.

The caning was ordered by the Magistrate, Mr. Nissanka Udalagama, in default of a fine of Rs. 37.50 imposed on the teenager.
