Imprisonment, switching for sex offence
Trevor Frater, 17½-year-old lad of 10 Poinsietta Avenue, Olympic Gardens was yesterday sentenced by Mr. Justice Moody to 30 days imprisonment at hard labour and to receive 12 strokes of the tamarind switch. The imprisonment and lashes followed his conviction by a jury for attempt at carnal abuse.
Evidence was heard in camera that on July 3, 1964 Frater committed the offence on a girl of 13 years. It was alleged to have taken place in a garage off the Olympic Way. Frater was not represented by counsel.
Mr. Churchill Raymond, Crown Counsel, appeared for the crown.
The jury were divided five-two in favour of conviction.
