Youth of 19 gets birch
Sentencing Ronald John Carrel, aged 19, to 12 strokes of the
birch, the Jersey magistrate, Mr. E.A. Dorey, said yesterday:
"There is only one way to deal with youths such as
you." Carrel ripped cinema seats with a knife.
The Criminal Justice Act of 1948, which prohibits corporal
punishment, does not apply to Jersey.
