Drug addict gets 17 years, five strokes for robbery and knife attack

SIBU: A labourer who stabbed an officer of the Sibu National Anti-Drug Agency in the chest was sentenced to 17 years and two months in jail, plus five strokes of the rotan by the Sessions Court on Wednesday (Sept 11).
The accused, Raymond Bakak Kinsing, 18, from Bandar Baru Permyjaya, Miri, was sentenced to 10 years jail and three strokes of the rotan for the first charge, filed under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt.
He had attacked his victim, Juing Garai, 28, with a knife.
The second charge, under Section 392 and 397 of the same code, was for committing armed robbery in forcibly taking the victim's wallet and motorcycle.
Justice Stella Augustine Druce sentenced Kinsing to six years' jail and one stroke of the rotan for the second offence.
The offences were committed between 7.30pm and 8.30pm on Sept 1 at the Cure and Care Centre on Jalan Upper Lanang by the accused while he was undergoing treatment for drug addiction.
According to the charge sheet, the victim was taking a rest at the staff restroom when the accused took out a knife and stabbed him in the chest.
He then took the victim's belongings and fled on his motorcycle.
The victim was admitted to the hospital on the same day and was discharged six days later.
Raymond was arrested in Samalaju Park in Bintulu at 11.15am on Sept 2.
