Teenager jailed 11 years, given 10 strokes of cane for two counts of criminal offences
SANDAKAN: The Sessions' Court here sentenced a local to 11 years behind bars and ordered him to be given 10 strokes of the rotan on two counts of criminal offences.
Louis Lunsud, 18, pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Egusra Ali to committing the offences under Section 394 and Section 457 of the Penal Code.
On the first offence, he robbed a woman of RM 280 and stabbing her in a room at Block 13, Jalan 2, Sandakan town at 11.35pm on April 8, the accused received six years and five strokes of the rotan.
For the second offence, he broke into a house at Rancangan Luboh at 2am on March 31 and stole a digital camera, walkman, several mobile phones and jewelries. He was jailed another five years and five strokes of the rotan.
The accused was arrested on the evening of April 8 in front of a commercial building in Sandakan town in connection with the two cases.
Sessions Court Judge Egusra ordered the jail term meted out against the accused to run consecutively. Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Fillany Siji appeared for the prosecution.

Man 145 years, 17 strokes for raping six students

KOTA KINABALU: A local man who claimed to have match-making skills and the ability to change a person's fortunes through his special treatment was yesterday jailed for a total of 145 years and ordered to be given 17 strokes of the cane for 17 counts of raping six students while on the pretext of treating them.
Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz imposed the sentence on Hamid Karno, 46, after he pleaded guilty to all the charges under Section 376 (1) of the Penal Code, which carry a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping upon conviction.
The unrepresented accused from Semporna, who was also known as 'Daddy', had introduced himself as a futsal coach to his victims.
For the first three of 17 charges, he was jailed for seven years and ordered to be whipped once for each charge of raping a girl, aged 18, in the living room of an apartment in Jalan Dambai, Menggatal on March 12, 14 and 19 this year.
For the next three charges, Hamid received eight years' imprisonment and one stroke of the cane for each charge for raping another student, 22, on March 14, 18 and 19.
For the seventh and eighth charges of raping a 19-year-old girl on March 16 and 17, the court sentenced him to eight years' jail and one stroke of the cane each.
For the ninth and 10th charges of raping a girl, aged 19, on March 17, he was jailed for seven years plus one stroke of cane for each charge.
Hamid was jailed for 10 years and three strokes of the cane for the 11th, 12th and 13th charges of raping a 24-year-old woman on March 13, 14 and 18.
And for the 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th charges, he received another 10 years' imprisonment and four strokes of the cane of raping a girl, aged 19, on March 3, 4 and 5.
The charges stated that all the offences were committed at the same place.
The court ordered the accused to serve the jail terms for raping each victim concurrently, and all the jail terms consecutively, which means Hamid would only serve 50 years' jail plus 17 strokes of the cane.
The facts of the case stated that all the victims, believed to be friends, lodged separate police reports against the accused.
Hamid deceived them into believing that through his special 'treatment', they could, among others, meet good men to be their life partners in the future, rejuvenate themselves and have good and lasting relationships with their respective boyfriends.
In order to benefit from his 'treatment' he set three conditions -- they had to stay in his house, have sex with him and steal valuables and pray.
They were warned that if they failed to meet his conditions, their faces would turn ugly and their lives would end in misery.
Some of the victims were also instructed to look for their replacements to cast away bad omen and restore their virginity.
Deputy public prosecutor Effizah Ernie Idris told the court that there was also a cheating conviction against the accused on Aug 17, 2006.
