Two teachers arrested in Soweto

A 58-year-old principal of Montshiwa Lower Primary school in Soweto was arrested on Tuesday for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, police said on Wednesday.

Superintendent Richard Luvhengo said the incident occurred on Friday when the man allegedly assaulted a 12-year-old boy by slapping him through the face. He had thought the boy had laughed at him.

Luvhengo said the principal then had the boy brought to his office where he allegedly assaulted him by beating him on the buttocks with a stick.

The principal was expected to appear in court on Wednesday.
