"Security Battalion In Saraqeb Carrying Out A Punishment" (3.5 minutes). In May 2013, two men are publicly whipped on the clothed upper back while lying on the ground, by anti-Assad forces who have taken over parts of Syria and set up Islamic courts. The first minute and a half of the film is taken up with a ranting gunman apparently reading out the verdict of such a court, which found the older of the two men guilty of marrying off his daughter to the younger man less than three months after her divorce. For this they received 50 and 40 lashes respectively. For more on this case, see this May 2013 news item.

This four-minute film was taken in Deir ez-Zor around the same period. This time the whipping is being administered indoors in private to the soles of the feet ("Falaka"), a nasty and cruel form of CP well known in the Arab world. Later in the film it turns into a random beating-up rather than proper corporal punishment. This is harrowing stuff, not for the squeamish. The culprits were said to be informants.

Two-minute clip from the beginning of 2014. Two kneeling men are punished on the bare upper back with a rubber whip, in front of an assembled crowd of onlookers. Their offences are not known. They are clearly in pain but they take the ordeal calmly.

A clothed standing man is publicly whipped up and down the whole of his back including his buttocks and the back of his legs. Before the flogging starts there is an interminable rant by one of the people in charge. Supposedly this punishment was 100 strokes for adultery, and took place in 2013. As often happens in the Arab world, the individual strokes are not very hard.

In a town square, said to be Anbar in Iraq, a kneeling boy is publicly flogged on the back, allegedly by ISIS forces (so-called Islamic State). The implement appears to be some kind of rubber whip. The youth is chanting in remorse and/or pain.
