School paddling in N. Carolina - TV news clip (Nov 2007)
This six-minute news report is from local TV in Winston-Salem, N.C. It notes the decision a few weeks earlier to abolish CP in Alamance-Burlington.
The camera crew visits a rural school in a different part of the area where paddling is still used. The principal shows his paddle and explains why he continues to use it and thinks that it is effective. There is also an interview with an anti-CP academic and a rundown of paddling statistics in each of the TV station's local districts.
A brief excerpt from a posed reconstruction of a student being paddled is also seen. This, though the clip does not mention it, is actually a scene from a fictional movie, Dead Poets Society, which is fairly irrelevant here because it was set in an upscale private boys' boarding school in the 1950s.
