Athens school district sued for hazing of teen

ATHENS -- Accusations of hazing on an East Texas varsity baseball team have prompted a lawsuit against a school system and several current and former officials.

Lawyers for Tommy and Susan Stutts of Athens and their son contend the teen was tackled by his teammates and then punched, kicked and spanked aboard an Athens High School bus.

The alleged attack happened after an Athens baseball game in Tyler on May 22, 1999. The Stuttses' son was a sophomore at Athens High and a member of the baseball team at the time, according to the lawsuit filed in Henderson County.

Family members are seeking an unspecified monetary judgment in addition to attorney's and court fees.
