Young men caned over fondling girl's 'boobs'
By Michael J. Ssali In Masaka
Two young men received five strokes of the cane each for indecent assault at a village court, Masaka municipality, December 27, 1998.
LC-I chairman Binyonyi, Hajji Muhamad Ssentongo caned Ibrahim Mujuzi, a hawker and Edward Kalungi, a student after they pleaded guilty of sexually harassing a girl (name withheld), a student of Kitoma Secondary School, Masaka.
The girl was waylaid by the duo in Nyendo Taxi Park, Binyonyi, Masaka municipality.
They lured her into a corner on the pretext that someone wanted to talk to her and started touching and fondling her breasts.
She ran away from them and told her father, Yasin Jjunju, a taxi driver in the same park. The two took the matter to the LC chairman who caused the duo's arrest.
Hajji Ssentongo told them that they risked years of imprisonment if their case had gone before the magistrates court.
They begged for mercy and asked Hajji Ssentongo to cane them and set them free. They suggested that they be caned 10 strokes each but the chairman took pity on them owing to their repentance and administered to each of them the 5 strokes.
He told them indecent assault can lead to rape and the spread of AIDS.
