The court also dissolved the marriage between the convict and Malama Tabawa Ibrahim, one of the five wives, who solicited the court's intervention in the matter. Delivering judgement yesterday, the Judge, Alhaji Ibrahim Garba, said that the court was convinced beyond reasonable doubt that the convict was guilty of the offence. He said the "intensive investigation" carried out by the court revealed that the convict was having five wives at a time, whose names were Salame, Saratu, Asabe, Binta, and the complainant, Tabawa. He advised the convict to be of good behaviour after serving his jail term, and gave him one month within which to appeal against the judgement if he was not satisfied. Tabawa had dragged Kakumi to the Sharia court for contravening the Islamic code by marrying five wives at a time. Four prosecution witnesses testified in the case. [...] Copyright © 2002 Daily Trust. The trial judge, in his judgment, said the court was convinced beyond reasonable doubt that Yahaya committed the offence. He said the accused had failed to convince the court that he did not commit the offence, adding that his use of force on a policeman proved that he was guilty of the offence. The judge advised Yahaya to be of good conduct after serving his jail term and to avoid entering other people's houses without permission. |
