KUCHING -- A 42-year-old farmer from Simunjan was given
the maximum 20 years jail term and eight strokes of the rotan by
the Session's Court here yesterday after he admitted raping
his 15-year-old daughter. Busri Saal committed the offence inside
their house at Kampung Sageng Ulu, Simunjan. The court was told
that the victim's mother lodged a police report on 16 July
after her daughter told her three days earlier that her father

Utusan Express online, Kuala Lumpur, 30 July 2004CourtMindef clerk gets 28 months, seven strokes for cheatingKUALA LUMPUR July 29 - A Defence Ministry administrative assistant was sentenced to 28 months' jail and ordered to be given six strokes of the rotan by the Sessions Court here Thursday on six counts of cheating involving payments amounting to RM32,108. Khairul Azrie Mohamed, 31, of Kota Bharu, was also sentenced to 20 months' jail and ordered to be given one stroke of the rotan on another charge of cheating, involving a payment of RM5,910. He pleaded guilty to all the charges. Judge Nursinah Adzmi ordered the jail sentences to run concurrently from the day he was arrested, last Tuesday. On the six counts, Khairul Azrie, the ministry's financial administrative assistant, was charged with cheating the Finance Unit of the ministry's Human Resources Division by deceiving it into believing that his wife, Masliza Zahari, 24, was the ministry-sponsored student and thereby dishonestly induced the unit to deliver six cheques for the amount in Masliza's name, which were later deposited into her account maintained at EON Bank Pandan Jaya branch. He committed the offences between June 18 2003 and March 2 this year. On the seventh count, he was charged with cheating the unit by dishonestly inducing it to deliver a cheque worth RM5,910 on Masliza's name by deceiving it in the same manner. In mitigation, defence counsel K.C.Wan informed the court that Khairul Azrie had made restitution amounting to RM10,000 to the ministry. Wan said that he had cheated the ministry as he had no money to finance the medical expenses of his 18-month-old son who is suffering from a heart problem.
