Duo convicted in sex attack

KUALA LUMPUR: Two men were sentenced to a total of 10 years' jail after a Sessions Court found them guilty of raping, molesting, performing oral sex and wrongfully confining a 24-year-old draughtswoman at an apartment last year.

Judge Mohd Zaki Abdul Wahab also ordered Ng Chin Hock, 34, to be given three strokes of the rotan while Chang Wan Chuan, also 34, received five strokes.

Ng and Chang
FOUND GUILTY...Ng (left) and Chang are both convicted over the sexual attack against the draughtswoman in Kuala Lumpur in August last year.

Ng, who faced three charges, was sentenced to two years' jail for wrongful confinement, three years for molest and 10 years for raping the woman at an apartment in Desa Tun Razak between Aug 5 and Aug 6 last year.

Chang was jailed 10 years for performing oral sex and another 10 for raping the same woman at the same time, date and place.

The sentences are to run concurrently. Ng will serve his jail term from his date of arrest on Jan 2 last year while Chang's term will be effective from his date of arrest on Jan 4 last year.

They were, however, released on bail at RM15,000 each with one surety after Mohd Zaki allowed an application for a stay of execution pending an appeal against their conviction and sentencing to the High Court.

Initially, Ng and Chang were jointly charged with Toe Yong Fah @ Foo Yong Fah, 32, and a draughtswoman Hor Yoke Kam.

Toe was sentenced to 18 months' jail after he pleaded guilty to abducting the woman, 18 months for wrongful confinement and two years for molesting the victim by stripping and photographing her nude at the same place, time and date.

Hor was released after the court found her not guilty on two charges of allegedly abetting Ng in confining and molesting the woman.

Earlier in passing sentence, Mohd Zaki said Ng and Chang had both failed to raise a reasonable doubt in their cases.

Mohd Zaki said the court had accepted Toe's evidence that there was a pre-meditated plan to commit the offences.

The victim's testimony showed that Ng and Chang had committed all the offences as charged, he said, adding that the court had to pass a deterrent sentence.
