Rapist jailed for seven years
By NATION Correspondent
A man was yesterday jailed for seven years and ordered to receive 10 strokes of the cane for rape.
Elijah Kipsang Kiplagat, 19, pleaded guilty before Eldoret Resident Magistrate Kipkemoi Ng'eno.
The court ruled that although the accused was a first offender, he should not be given another chance to molest women.
"In this era of HIV/Aids, such an offence is so unreasonable that the court must mete out a deterrent sentence," he said.
The charge stated that on May 5, at Kipkabus village, Keiyo District, he raped the woman.
The prosecutor, Mr Joseph Ondoro said the complainant had gone to visit his relatives but did not know the exact place where they lived.
The accused volunteered to show her the home of a Mr Kimngetich but instead led her to the forest and raped her. The complainant later reported the matter at the Kaptagat Police Station and the accused was arrested and charged.
