22-yr old to die for rape

A man was yesterday sentenced to death in Kerugoya for rape and robbery.

Joseph Maina Warui, 22, raped a married woman and robbed her of a radio cassette.

Senior Resident Magistrate Nyaga Njagi ordered that Maina serve 10 years in prison and receive 10 strokes for rape and then hang for robbery with violence. The sentences will run consecutively.

On the night of June 3, the man went to the complainant's house at Kang'aru village, Kirinyaga District, and ordered her to open the door or he would force his way in. The woman obliged and Maina stormed in brandishing a panga.

He dragged the woman out and raped her in a nearby bush.
