Rapist Jailed for Seven Years
By Beatrice Obwocha and Anthony Gitonga
A man who defiled a 12-year-old girl was yesterday sentenced to seven years imprisonment and seven strokes of the cane by a Nakuru court.
David Ombalo Kasebebe was also ordered by Senior Resident Magistrate Hellen Wasilwa to pay Sh10,000 fine or serve six months in prison for assaulting the minor's parents.
Ombalo's father, Jacob Ombalo Konoli, was fined Sh10,000 or nine months imprisonment for aiding his son in assaulting the minor's parents by setting a dog on them. Kasebebe was charged that on the night of February 22, 2001 at Rhonda Estate, he defiled the minor.
Kasebebe and Konoli were charged with assaulting Eunice Mweru and Peter Wamai at the estate on the same date.
Kasebebe was found guilty of defiling the minor said to have been his sister's friend. She had gone to spend the night at the accused's family home.
Meanwhile, a middle-aged man who detained and raped a 15-year-old girl for four days was yesterday jailed for 11 years with eight strokes of the cane by a Naivasha court.
James Gateri Rubia stunned the court when he pleaded guilty to three counts of rape, detention of a female for an immoral purpose and indecent assault.
The court was told that on April 22 this year at Karati village in Nyandarua District, he abducted the girl who was going for a short call.
He then warned her against making any noise and dragged her into his house, a kilometre away where he detained her for four days while having carnal knowledge of her. The court was told that the girl was rescued by members of the public.
