Bruneian jailed for assault, drugs

A 25-year-old Bruneian man was recently convicted of three offences in the High Court of Bandar Seri Begawan.

Hj Shahrul Rewady bin Mohd Yussof was first charged with causing hurt by wielding a dangerous weapon.

He was also charged with voluntarily causing hurt in order to deter a public servant from doing his duty.

The High Court found Hj Shahrul guilty of the two offences which he had committed on Feb 17 this year. His victim was an officer of the Narcotics Control Bureau.

At 2.30 pm that day, the officer made an attempt to arrest Hj Shahrul, who was believed to be involved in drug-related activities, at Simpang 462 in the vicinity of Kampung Sungei Hanching.

The court also found Hj Shahrul guilty of misuse of the drugs morphine and diazepam and sentenced him to jail for five years. He also received seven strokes of the rotan.
