Cane and jail for vandalism

A Sabahan, Ali Usin bin Tawih, 33, was sentenced to six months in prison and ordered to be given two strokes of the cane for vandalising private property and fined $500 in default two weeks in prison for entering Brunei illegally.

The first charge against him stated that he caused damage to the back sliding door of Number 1, fifth floor, Bangunan Wisma Haji Daud, Gadong which caused an estimated damage of $280.

His second charge stated that he entered Brunei illegally. He arrived in Brunei on December 20 at Pangkalan Muara by speedboat. On December 22, he was arrested at the scene of the crime.

The case was heard before Magistrate Mohd Faisal bin Pehin Dato Hj Kifli.
