Corpun file 25079 at www.corpun.com The Straits Times, Singapore, 28 December 2013, p.A10Man who held sex-and-drug party jailedBy Khushwant Singh A VOCAL instructor who is HIV-positive organised a sex-and-drug party and also sold methamphetamine on the side to cover the cost of treatment for his condition. Tommy Lim Yong Thong's days of partying and pushing drugs are now over. He was sentenced yesterday to 5½ years in jail and five strokes of the cane after pleading guilty to trafficking and consuming drugs, and planning a sex-and-drug party. The 30-year-old was arrested with two other men by officers of the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) at 1pm on May 26. Lim, who worked at a music school, was then with Diego Mark Jason Solares, 29, and De Tomas Camerino Efren Jr, 33, both Philippine nationals, in a room at the Furama Riverfront Hotel. More than 40g of methamphetamine, or "Ice", was found in the room. Later that day, CNB officers returned to the hotel to raid the room of Coert Isaac Stanley Parree, 42, and found Ice and an improvised pipe. The Dutch national was then a flight attendant with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. Investigations then revealed that Parree had sent Lim a text message on May 22 that he was in the Furama Riverfront Hotel. Lim agreed to organise a "session", which referred to a party involving sex and drugs.
The next day, he booked a room at the hotel and invited Solares and Efren. Lim admitted to bringing the Ice and giving it for free to the two Filipinos, with whom he had sex. He also admitted to selling the drug to his clients outside the hotel. He bought it in batches of 25g from a man he knew only as Mike, paying about $130 a gram. He then sold each gram for $320. Defence counsel Josephine Chee said her client's medical condition had deteriorated and that he was "very weak". District Judge Chay Yuen Fatt said the prison doctor would determine if Lim can be caned. The jail term was backdated to May 28, when he was first charged in court and remanded. Solares, who came here as a tourist; Efren, who works as an insurance agent here; and Parree had been dealt with earlier. |
