With comment by C. Farrell

Parental discipline debate - two clips.

Clip 1 of 2

Date: 10 September 2006
Duration: 1 minute 40 seconds

News item from Australian TV (Channel 9)

Richard Goncalves reports. A public opinion poll finds widespread support for spanking by parents (Australian English uses the British term "smacking").

Interview with non-smacking mother. Report of opinion survey in which almost half of parents thought leaving a mark during punishment was OK. Statement by the Childhood Foundation, which wants all smacking outlawed, incorrectly claiming that for states to allow parents to use CP is contrary to international law.

John Thwaites, Deputy Premier of Victoria, says there is no need to change the law. Brief comments by pro-smacking parents.

The sound is slightly out of sync in the latter part of the clip.

Clip 2 of 2

Date: May 2013
Duration: 1 minute 30 seconds

Extracts from an Australian TV documentary about a mother who advocates smacking children as punishment. She was happy for the TV audience to see her giving her daughters on-the-spot slaps to the backside -- apparently in anger, which is really not a good look.
