1945: BORDEN'S HEMO FOOD SUPPLEMENT. The boy has knocked the lampstand over and broken it. Here, in contrast to some other examples from the same era, such as Ivory Bath Soap, the suggestion is not so much that his mother is wrong per se to spank him for such misbehaviour. Rather, opines Elsie the cow, the misbehaviour itself might have been avoided had he been given Hemo to drink. In fact the logical implication of this line of argument is that, if the boy were given Hemo and then still misbehaved, spanking him might well be entirely justified.
