Man Gets 8 Years For Sexual Assault
A 42-year-old man who sodomised his wife was sent to jail for eight years yesterday. He will also be caned four times.
The Lamu man turned up home on the night of November 5 with a roll of bhang, the court heard. He drugged himself with it after failing to force his wife to take it and then sodomised her.
After he was done, she ran into the night and alerted village elders and the police.
In court, the man admitted a charge of sodomy.
He had earlier served five years for incest and was released from prison last April, said the prosecutor, Mr Charles Kazungu.
Last September, he sodomised his wife, but the matter was settled at home and he was let off with a warning.
In mitigation, he told Senior Resident Magistrate Jonathan Kombe that he wanted to become a "born again" Christian to cleanse himself.
Mr Kombe said the accused had previous conviction but did not appear to have learnt anything from the past offences.
