Ten Strapped

Don Jail Riot

Probe Sequel

Press cutting

Ten prisoners were strapped by guards at Don jail for the part they played in their last week's disturbance, it was learned today.

Some 20 inmates of the "Kingston block" threw their food on the floor, smashed dishes and upset their supper tables, in the corridor, as a protest against the food. Police were called to help the guard quell the disturbance. This was finally accomplished by use of the fire hose.

An investigation was held by the prisons division of the provincial secretary's office the next day and 10 men found to be mostly responsible for the outbreak were ordered punished. Some received eight strokes of the strap and others four, according to the seriousness of their part in the riot, it was said.
