Five Men Jailed For Stealing Cars And Electrical Cables

Bandar Seri Begawan – Five local men aged between 26 and 37 years old were sentenced to jail by the Bandar Magistrate's Court yesterday after they pleaded guilty to a number of serious charges of stealing cars, electrical cables, mischief and theft of aluminium doors belonging to the Government of Brunei Darussalam.

The first defendant, Rody bin Abd Jalil was sentenced to four years and three months jail and eight strokes of the cane, Iskandar bin Hj Durahim, 37, to 27 months, Pg Zamani bin Pg Metasan @ Pg Daud, 26, to 18 months, Ak Saiful Nizam bin Pg Metasan @ Pg Daud, 24, to 16 months and Zoolessmy bin Hj Bahmin, 26, to 20 months imprisonment.

Rody who doesn't have any criminal records first pleaded guilty to stealing a Toyota Corolla with Iskandar in the vicinity of a shophouse in Kg Lubuk Tebangun on August 18, 2005.

He then admitted to committing the theft of another car, a Toyota Corona with another person on or about September 1 this year in the vicinity of a carpark at Home Centre, Tanjung Bunut.

Meanwhile, Rody also admitted to stealing electrical cables belonging to the Brunei Government on or about July 17 this year in the vicinity of Kg Subok electrical substation and to committing mischief by causing wrongful damage to the electrical cables, estimated at $390. The charge stated that he committed the offence with another person.

He also pleaded guilty to stealing electrical cables belonging to the Brunei Government in the vicinity of Menglait electrical sub-station and to committing mischief pertaining to the cables, estimated at $3,010. Rody committed the offence sometime in August 2005.

The defendant then again pleaded guilty to stealing electrical cables with another person in August this year in the vicinity of Supasave Gadong electrical sub-station and to committing mischief pertaining to the cables estimated at $3,110.

On the ninth and tenth charges, Rody pleaded guilty to committing the theft of an aluminium door belonging to the Brunei government in August 2005 in the vicinity of Kg Serdang electrical sub-station. He admitted to committing mischief by causing wrongful damage to the door estimated at $600.

Meanwhile, Iskandarwho is facing two charges of theft, secondly admitted to stealing electrical cables with Rody in August 2005 in the vicinity of F14, Perumahan Beribi Gadong electrical sub-station.

Pg Zamani and Ak Saiful Nizam, meanwhile, pleaded guilty to committing, the theft of an aluminium door belonging to the Brunei Government on or about August 2005 at an electrical sub-station' in the vicinity of Sekolah Menglait. Both defendants were jointly charged with Rody and another person.

Both defendants also admitted to dishonestly retaining stolen electrical cables belonging to the Brunei Government on or about September 14 at a house in Kg Lambak Kanan.

The fifth defendant, Zoolessmy pleaded guilty to stealing a Toyota Super Kijang on September 20 this year in the vicinity of Archi Mini Mart at Kampong Madewa.

He then admitted to committing the theft of electrical cables belonging to the Brunei Government sometime in August 2005 at Lot B, Beribi'Industrial Area, Jalan Gadong. He committed the offence with Rody.
